Under the skillful and dedicated direction of Mr. Greg Anderson, The award-winning students of Carlsbad High School performed an extraordinary concert on June 6, 2008. Musical selections included; Antares, by Richard Salcedo and Symphony #4 Finale by Tchaikovsky, arranged by Daniel Fyffe. One of the many highlights of the evening included the outstanding solo and ensemble performances. The Band Boosters would like to thank the Carlsbad Community and countless others that made this year a huge success. In lieu of the current school budget crisis, it was clear to every person attending this concert that MUSIC MATTERS to the students and community of Carlsbad as it should matter to every school and community in America.
The Carlsbad High School Wind Symphony comprises the entire student instrumental ensemble enrolled at Carlsbad High School. Even though students are not required to audition for entrance into the group a rarity in public education—all are encouraged and held accountable for practice, performance and culpability when becoming a member of the Wind Symphony. Higher level students are given the opportunity within the Wind Ensemble to stretch their capabilities by performing a larger repertoire of difficult pieces of music. There are also opportunities to perform at an adjudicated level in Solo and Ensemble capacities each spring. Many individual members of the Wind Symphony audition, are accepted, and perform at Regional and All-State levels as well. Each spring a select group has the opportunity to assist the CHS Drama Department for their spring musical as well as musically supporting graduation ceremonies each June.
