About UsThere are many opportunities for the music students at CHS to excel in preparation for college and/or a professional music career. All students participate in the Marching Lancers plus several different performing units throughout the year. The list includes: ♪ CHS Pep Band ♪ Wind Symphony ♪ Drum Line ♪ Winter Guard ♪ Spring Musical Pit Orchestra ♪ CHS Jazz Band THE CARLSBAD HIGH SCHOOL WIND SYMPHONY, an ensemble of ninth through 12th grade students, made astounding advances in a very short time. The ensemble is now recognized as one of the finest in the nation, having progressed from junior high to college level repertoire through hard work, high expectations, and increased participation in competitions, festivals and All-State and regional honor bands. The CHS Band Program is unique among schools as it has only one band which is open to all students without audition. The entire enrollment marches in the fall football season, then dons tuxedos and gowns in the spring to perform symphonic works. This level of inclusiveness is unusual among performing arts and other campus groups, leading to an unusually high degree of student diversity. In spite or perhaps because of this, the program consistently produces a disproportionately high number of National Merit Scholars, Governor’s Scholars, and honor roll members. Recent band graduates now attend the U.S. Naval Academy, Stanford, USC, University of Oregon and the Universities of California Berkeley, Irvine, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz and Merced, and the United States Marine Corps Band . This group of dedicated young people and their gifted leader are a great source of pride for Carlsbad High School, the school district, and the Carlsbad community. Their consistent record of accomplishment includes: ♪ February 2002 - Invited by the California Band Directors Association to perform as one of the featured bands at their annual convention.
